Aysgarth Falls
Yorkshire Dales

Aysgarth Falls are a popular beauty spot in the beautiful Wensleydale area of the Yorkshire Dales. The Falls are surrounded by peaceful woodland broken only by the mighty roar of the river Ure as it tumbles it's way down the limestone steps.

The National Park Centre at the car park has information and facilities.

Aysgarth Falls has a flight of three waterfalls, here we are at the Upper Falls.

In the film 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' starring Kevin Costner, the Upper Falls were the ideal setting for Robin Hood's fight with Little John.

Over the other side of Yore Bridge is Yore Mill, it was built as a cotton mill in the 18th century and later the Yorkshire Carriage Museum which closed in 2004.

Walking in woodland along the Millennium Trail there are artworks, the inscription on this seat says; "Welcome to this special place, rest a moment and listen to the sounds of the woods and the waterfalls."

The Lower Falls are just as spectacular as you will see

The steps which form the waterfalls are made of hard limestone rock with thin layers of softer shale in between, over the years as the river Ure rushes over the rocks it wears away the shale and the limestone rock breaks off in big blocks to form the steps.
