Bestwood Country Park
Nottinghamshire

Bestwood Country Park is 4 miles north of Nottingham city centre, it offers 650 acres of parkland and woodland and a wide variety of wildfowl and wild flowers. The lakes are about 15 minutes walk from the park through Bestwood Village. The lakes and heath land have been created from the spoil heaps which were left behind when Bestwood colliery closed. Bestwood Country Park is open all year from dawn till dusk and is free admittance.

The Winding Engine House, left as a reminder of when Bestwood colliery
was one of the busiest in the county of Nottinghamshire.

From open parkland the path leads to pleasant woodland

Gorse bush coming into flower

The woodland was once part of the Royal Forest of Sherwood,
there are walking and cycling trails and separate horse trails.

Someone's been busy

From the woodland there are views over the rural countryside

The adventure playground is empty, a bit too cold I think.

A glimpse of sunshine brightens up the woodland

Horses and riders from Broad View Riding School
just down the lane from here

And here it is, the riding school is in full swing.

Mill Lakes, Bestwood Village.

What are they waiting for........

........feeding time.
